Our first football match for girls from our Year 4&5 classes.

Girls Football

The weather was kind to us this afternoon as some of our Year 4&5 girls took to the football pitch today in their first match against Leigham Primary.

For most of our girls it was their first experience in a football match and an opportunity to put some of our attacking, defensive and ball skills into play.

The score line at the end did not reflect the enjoyment of the day as in true Wembury style our children embrace every opportunity to be involved win or lose. The smiles on our girl's faces as they left the pitch would leave you to assume we had won a cup final!

In the first minute of the game, while the girls were just settling their nerves, somehow Leigham managed to sneak a ball into the back of our net making it 1-0. Wembury battled their way through the next 40 minute with some really good runs with the ball and becomming more aware of the game as it progressed.

We were unfortunate to give away a penalty due to a hand ball ( let's remember this is their first match!) but our super star Goal Keeper Sarah, rose to the challenge and saved it in a mirraculous manner, lifting the spirits of all of our players and supporters. We continued to battle with that all important equalizer managing to ellude our attempts, and it was in the very last minute of the game that Leigham scored their second goal ending with a score line of 2-0.

Well done to all of our players, but the award for 'Player of the Match' had to go to Sarah for amazing us with her solid Goal Keeping performance.

Thank you to Leigham Primary for making the journey to come and play the game and a big thank you to staff from Plymouth Argyle community trust for stepping in and providing your refereeing skills.

Well done Wembury, who shall we play next...?
