A Fantastic Term of Sport
An over view of a successful term of sport
West Cornforth Primary school have had a fantastic first term of sport. We are taking the time now to look back over events, club successes and briefly look to next term's plans .
Events:
Over the past four months, we have attended and organised lots of sports festivals and competitions; starting with the cross country league in which two of our children had a podium finish. We also attended the cross country festival. Staff who were present at the festival commented upon the children's improvements from last year.
The next event was the football league where, for the first time in three years, we took both and A and B teams to this event. The A team came 3rd; however, a week later (at the football cup) they went one better and achieved second place.
A team of ten year six children went to the tag rugby festival this year, as we tried to secure even more success. After a fun day of both learning skills and playing matches, West Cornforth came in second place.
The next event was the netball league. We took part in the three week competition were we reached the semi finals before losing two games to come fourth place over all.
Following on from the netball league, children from year five and six went to the district sports hall athletics competition. After an afternoon of jumping, running, throwing and relay events, the scores were added; we came joint third.
The final competition of 2017 was the gymnastic festival. This was attend by our year five class. They had worked very hard to create a routine that would show off all aspects of gymnastics and excite the audience. We were the last school to present our performance and in the award ceremony at the end, we were awarded a certificate for "Displaying Great Variety Of Movem
In the autumn term, both years two and three have both taken part in multi-skills festivals were they competed in a number of games and challenges.
Clubs
In the autumn term 2017, Mr Hoggart organised and held a number of sporting clubs at different points throughout the day. Children are encouraged to participate in physical activities during morning break times, lunch times and after school. Some of the most popular clubs this term have been Change for Life, (52 participants) closely followed by cross country club (32 participants ) and The Morning Mile (engaging on average 27 people a day). On review, 93 children have attended an extra curricular club this term; this a fantastic start to the year for our clubs and we hope that the children yet to participate find a club that suites them in the coming term.
