Year 5/6 Football Competition
On Monday 14th November, our Year 5/6 football team played in a football tournament at St Bedes.
For the first game, we were playing Westbury Park. We started strong with a few crucial passes to get into the final third then with a lovely cross from Stan, Lucas tapped it in at the far post. Straight after, Noah buried a lovely finish which ended up in the bottom corner. The score at the end of the game ended 3-0 for us.
For the second game, we played St. Johns. In the first half, we dominated the game and we got our reward by Lucas scoring from long range. In the second half, we kept it tight with some exotic defending and some sensational skills from Seb, Louie and Harry. Unfortunately, they scored a lucky goal that deflected and squeezed into the bottom corner. At the end of the game, the score ended 1-1.
That meant that St Johns needed to win 4-0 against Westbury Park to progress through to the semi-finals and knock us out. So we were all on edge throughout their game. Luckily, Westbury Park only let in two goals which meant we were through to the semis.
In the semi-finals, we played St Ursulas, who we thought were the best team in the competition. We were all angry at St Ursulas because, a few weeks ago, they arranged a friendly against us and they didn’t even turn up! However, it was a very even game and their striker caused a few problems for Stan and Seb at the back. We knew this game would go to penalties! And it did… Seb took the first pen and slotted it away, sadly, so did their player. Africa and Gabe also scored their penalties and as the penalties went on, it was up to Harry to save us. Fortunately, Harry made an absolute worldie and won us the game. We were in the finals!
In the finals, we were facing St. Bons. It was very even with some really good plays from both teams. But, frustratingly, the opposition won a corner. A very dangerous cross swerved in and Louie kicked it out for Noah but St. Bons got there before him. They shot and they narrowly squeezed the ball into the top right corner of the goal and we realised that was the game. We still tried to create chances but their defence was to strong. Finally, the whistle blew and we, sadly, knew we had come second. We were all devastated but we had a very fun experience.
Thank you to Mr Banks for taking us!
