Football match

Mrs Donaghue, 22 Oct 2018

First match of the season.

2018/2019 is a big season for Wren’s Nest football team. It’s a fresh start - new players, new coaches (with Mr Snape joining us and Mr Butler being our referee) a new kit, and a whole new positive attitude towards football and our learning. Back in July over 70 children boys and girls tried out to be part of our new school football squad (WOW!)  - a tough trial when only 14 children could be part of our squad.

Yesterday evening, our school football team had our first league match against Kate’s Hill Primary School (a well organised, talented team) Now, we have talented players and a great captain but most importantly we have a desire to always give our best no matter what happens. We started the game well but mistakes were made and we were 5-0 down at half time.  (Not what we had hoped for and trained for) but with mistakes comes learning. We all make mistakes in life but it’s how we react to them that matters. Our teachers felt this score line was unjust and that we deserved to only be 1-0 down.

At half time we could have argued, we could have blamed individuals but we didn’t! We decided that we were going to treat the second half as our second chance (Mr Snape’s great idea) and persevere with our game plan to attack and defend as a team.

We started the second half with a great Wren’s Nest attitude and quickly and confidently dominated the second half and we scored 4 goals! The match finished 5-4. We were disappointed but at the same time proud of our comeback.

We can now look forward to our next fixture knowing that if we work together, train hard and be commuted then we will achieve. Come on Wren’s Nest!

From a very proud teacher!
