Blogging and media

The School Games offers the opportunity for all registered schools to increase their profile and celebrate their school sport provision through the use of blogging and media tools. Read on to find out more about them.

What’s on offer?

Each school registered on the School Games website will receive a profile page which they can make their own through an online dashboard - just like a social media page. As part of this profile, there will be an area for blogs, which you are free to write or copy from other destinations, e.g. your school website. Images and videos can be shared through these blogs, along with written text, and we would welcome contributions from all of our schools. As with your school’s website or a social media profile, you can customise these pages to look unique to your school through the addition of event listings, School Games Mark records, links to your school website or other content produced by your school, and much more – this space is yours to control!

What are the benefits?

Blogging represents a fantastic opportunity for schools to engage more young people with the School Games. Many pupils may have an interest in reporting or journalism and this could provide a stepping stone for them to progress after they leave school, whilst also helping promote the school to parents and other members of the local community. Creating a Young Media Team can be a fun way to ensure that young people can interact with the Games in multiple ways, working with their peers in a meaningful way.

What can I win?

Traditionally, the Youth Sport Trust have offered prizes to our most prolific or articulate bloggers and we are delighted to confirm the following prizes for the 2017/18 academic year:

Blog of the Week Winner: Each week we will announce our Blog of the Week winner via our various social media channels. This award will go to the school deemed to have entered the best blog over a standard five-day school week. Our Blog of the Week winners will also have their school profile spotlighted on our homepage for a two week period.

Twitter Blog Awards: At the end of each calendar month we will celebrate the following award winners: our most active school, our most active pupil, our most engaging SGO (the most individual schools blogging), and our blog of the month. Each winner will receive a celebratory post on our social media channels to highlight their continued success and dedication to blogging.

School of the Month: Each month we will also award our ‘School of the Month’ award to the school that is considered to have made the single strongest contribution to the media content available on the School Games website. They will earn a permanent place in the School Games Hall of Fame.

Termly Giveaways:  Each term, our Blog of the Week winners will be collated into a list of potential prize winners. A select panel of judges will then vote on their favourites and award the following prizes sourced from Youth Sport Direct:

  • 1st place - £250 voucher
  • 2nd place - £200 voucher
  • 3rd place - £150 voucher
  • 4th place - £100 voucher
  • 5th place - £50 voucher

Prize winners will be announced at the start of the next academic term: Autumn Term winners will receive their prizes in January 2018; Spring Term winners in April 2018; and Summer Term winners in September 2018.
