2017 School Games Mark application window open - prizes to be won!

The School Games team were delighted to welcome the start of the School Games Mark application window last week - with the window officially opening on Wednesday 31 May 2017.

This is the sixth year that the award scheme has been run. Every year, since the award's inception in 2011, we have celebrated an increase in the number of applications we have received - culminating in last year's tally of more than 9,200. This year, we are determined to reach five figures for the first time!

But what's in it for you and how can you apply?

Well, the School Games Mark is a nationally recognised award that any School Games registered school can apply for - even if they only just registered! It is a retrospective award which attempts to recognise the quality of a school's sport provision over the course of an academic year. School's are measured across a set of criteria, released to the public in January 2017, and if they are successful are graded at bronze, silver, or gold level.

The criteria is tweaked each year to ensure that no school, however successful in the past, does not relax its passion and determination on providing the best possible quality of sport for their young people. This year's changes include a greater precedence on the non-active population and the completion of an 'inclusive health check' amongst the pre-requisites.

Also new this year, is the introduction of a Platinum Award. This special award has been created to help recognise those schools which have consistently exceeded expectations since the award's inception. Any school which has received gold for the past four or five years, and is graded gold this year, will be offered the additional opportunity to apply for Platinum - an award which will stand for two years.

All schools who apply successfully will receive a Digital Celebration Pack. This includes a customisable certificate, a logo to use on letterheads or websites, a pre-written press release to customise and share with local media, parents, or governors, and a celebratory social media GIF which can be used to promote your success.

Furthermore, schools who are graded at gold or platinum will receive a plaque which they can proudly display at their school. All schools who apply will also be put into a draw to win one of two £250 Youth Sport Direct vouchers - which can be used to purchase new sports equipment or resources for your school.

Applying is easy. Just press the 'start application' button on your school dashboard and complete the short form. Applying can take as little as 20 minutes. We'll do the rest!

The application window closes on Friday 28 July 2017.
