Activity details

Players take turns to aim and throw small equipment through hoops of different sizes. The hoops can be hung from trees or from a line securely and safely fixed in the play space. The hoop targets can be placed at different heights and be different sizes for added challenge. Hoops can have different points awarded to reflect the level of challenge. Different throwing skills can be developed including over arm, underarm, chest pass, throwing while stationary or  when moving. This activity can be as challenging as you wish.

  • Number of participants: Group/pair/individual
  • Purpose of activity: Increase pupil physical activity through an engaging aiming activity. Pupils can practise a variety of throwing skills using different hoop targets. Pupils can set themselves challenges or work as a pair or team. 
  • Including all pupils: STEP framework included.
  • Pupil roles: Participant 
  • Space: Outdoors. Ensure the space is suitable for the number of players. Mark out a play area for the activity to be played in and make sure no other pupils are nearby when throwing is taking place. Remove hoops at the end of the session.
