More New Sport Formats Coming Soon
The fourth wave of redesigned School Games sport formats will launch on Tuesday 24 February 2026.
Developed in partnership with each sport’s National Governing Body, these updated formats are designed specifically for the School Games environment. They aim to strengthen consistency across the country, support inclusive delivery and ensure events are aligned with national frameworks.
Wave 4 will introduce updated formats for:
- Basketball
- Football
- Multi-Skills
- Netball (SEND format only)
- NFL
- Rugby League
- Table Cricket
- Touch Rugby
These formats will be available to select within the Events Calendar on the Your School Games website from 24 February.
Why This Matters
Over the past year, three waves of redesigned sport formats have already been introduced across the network. Wave 4 continues this work, ensuring that more sports are delivered in a way that:
- Supports inclusive participation
- Reflects national governing body guidance
- Provides a consistent experience for young people
- Enables accurate tracking and reporting across the programme
Using the updated formats helps ensure your local delivery aligns with national expectations and strengthens the collective impact of the School Games.
What You Need to Do
Ahead of the launch:
- Review any upcoming events in the affected sports
- Prepare to select the new formats when planning summer term activity
- Ensure colleagues involved in event delivery are aware of the upcoming changes.
We encourage all schools, SGOs and Active Partnerships to begin using the new formats as soon as they are available.
Further details, including direct links to each sport format page, will be shared on launch day.
If you are currently planning events for the summer term, please check back on 24 February and update your formats accordingly.
