Activity details

Counting Cones is an active and inclusive activity to help pupils to gain an understanding of map reading skills in orienteering. 

  • Number of participants: Group 
  • Purpose of activity: Increase pupil physical activity through developing orientation skills 
  • Including all pupils: STEP framework included 
  • Pupil roles: Participant, Leader 
  • Space: Outdoors. Ensure the space is large enough for pupils to run around simultaneously without the potential of collision 
  • Equipment: Twelve cones, three of each colour; red, blue, yellow and green, sticky labels, maps, recording sheet and pens
