What is judo?

Judo is an unarmed modern Japanese martial art and has been an Olympic sport since 1964. The objective of the sport is to safely throw an opponent, immobilise them with a pin, or force an opponent to submit with a joint lock.

Judo can be safely practiced virtually, in a 2 metre x 2 metre space at home or in a school. Although a traditional school judo club would ideally require a 7 metre x 7 metre judo matted area, which can be easily set up and packed away in any typical school hall or sports hall.
