What is squash?

Squash is a point-scoring game which can be played on a squash court or on a rebound net or wall. The adaptability of squash means it’s inclusive and can be played anywhere. It’s suitable for all genders, abilities, and age groups and is easy to learn.

Activities are designed to develop key skills such as balance, coordination and agility whilst building confidence.

Primary formats

England Squash's primary School Games offer has three choices:

Skills festival: Easy-to-play activities to help develop transferable and squash-specific skills. Key skills include throwing, control, and point-scoring whilst working on accuracy and precision. It’s adaptable based on the space and equipment you have available.

Game-based activity: Ideal for introducing an element of competition, there are games for solo, pairs, and team competitions.

Match play competitions: For those ready to test their skills 1v1, why not try adapted pairs rallies to smaller spaces.

The primary offer complements England Squash's primary school programme, Ready, Set, Squash.

Both the School Games formats and Ready, Set, Squash are suitable for SEND, as they can be easily modified in terms of space, equipment, and difficulty.

Secondary formats

The secondary School Games offer also has three choices:

Skill Festival: To develop racket and ball skills, there are activities that work on transferable and squash-specific skills and technique.

Game-based activity: Ideal for those seeking a competitive game. A selection of fun games that players can score points to either count towards their own total or a team total.

Match play competitions: For those who want to test themselves 1v1, can either be played individually or as part of a team.
