All Stars Cricket from Leicestershire County Cricket Club in the Community

Year 3/4 Cricket Festival

On Wednesday 23rd May, we were invited to go to Brooksby Melton College to learn some cricket skills. Clare invited Mark from Leicestershire County Cricket in the Community to do All Stars Cricket with us. Also, The Grove primary school came as well.

First, we played a game called cups and saucers where The Grove children had to put the cones upwards and we had to put them downwards. This was the warm up.

After that, we got put into small groups mixed up with the Grove children and there were three activities that we did. One was called ‘The Space Run’ and we had to go through the galaxy, and asteroid field while dribbling a cricket ball with a bat. Another activity was throwing different types of ball up and catching them while also doing other things like clapping. The last activity was races balancing and dribbling the cricket ball in different ways. Some of us also balanced the beanbag on our heads!

At the end of the afternoon, we played a game called ‘Scatterball’. One team batted and one team fielded. We mixed up children from Ab Kettleby and The Grove and also had some sports leaders in our teams. The team that batted had to hit three balls with the bat then run around the stumps as many times as they could while the other team got the balls. In the end, it was a draw between both teams.

Alice’s favourite part was the Scatterball game at the end and Emma liked balancing the beanbag best. It was fun to mix up with The Grove children and chat to them too. Mark also told us about All Star Cricket coaching and it was a fun afternoon.
