Bee Proud Kool Curling Yr4

Mr Ellis, 18 Dec 2019

We travelled to Great Academy Ashton with some of our Year 4 children to try out Kool Curling.

Well, what an amazing time the children had at the Bee Proud Cool Kurling competition. For some of the children, it was their first time out with the school at a sporting competition. For others, it was their first time playing Cool Kurling.

The children were very excited when they arrived at Great Academy Ashton and made their way up to the sports hall. Other schools were already having a go at the events to come so we joined in for a quick practise.

The time came for the children to take part in the first of four different events. In the first event, the children had to push the stone onto a target mat. The children tried hard to make the stone land on the mat, but it was a little tricky to aim accurately as well as get the correct amount of force.

For the second event, the children had to aim the stones at skittles that were spread out in a row. This was a great event for some of our children, with some of them managing to knock down some of the skittles.

The third and fourth events were like the first two events. What was obvious though was how much the children had improved in such a short space of time. The accuracy had improved as had the force they were applying when pushing each stone.

After the event, medals were given out by the leaders on the night with MF, CS and HB earning a medal each.

The children thoroughly enjoyed the event, as did the three adults from school, so much so that Miss Stonehewer is going to purchase a Cool Kurling kit for school so if you fancy a go, ask your teacher if you can have a go during one of your indoor PE lessons. Who knows, we might even start an after school kurling club after Christmas.

Player of the Bee Proud Cool Kurling is JM for showing great concentration throughout the event and showing great respect towards children from other schools.
