We took 3 teams to the Tameside School Games Hockey Tournament, and one team made it through to the finals

Quicksticks School Games Hockey

On a surprisingly warm and sunny winter evening we took three very eager teams to the Tameside School Games Hockey heats with teams hoping that they can qualify for next weeks final.

The A team started off really well with a dominating performance where we had lots of chances with SK nearly scoring a well worked team goal. We came close to scoring again but had to settle for a 0-0 draw, though the team were confident going forward and were showing the benefits of training at Monday sports squad.

In the second game it all came together with a great 4-0 win with all players contributing to a fantastic performance that set us up well for the final game where we would need a win to potentially qualify. Luckily for Greenside their performance kept getting better with OY, LS and SK getting on the score sheet in a 3-0 victory to send us through to the Tameside Finals which take place on Wednesday 21st.

Our B team were up next and started with a game against Airlies. It was very close throughout but our teams defence was very strong from the start, denying them opportunities and creating chances. OG missed a penalty shot but then

EM scored the winning goal. We carried this on in our next game against Gee Cross, scoring another good goal and then relying on our super defence to manage another victory.

Our final game against Greswell was going to be crucial and we started well by taking the lead and then had some good defence but Greswell managed to grab a goal setting up a close finish where Greswell scored late on to win 2-1. The team waited for the result and finished joint first in their group, but unfortunately missed out on the Tameside final by one goal on goal difference, a fantastic effort.

The C team also were in action and were lead by Miss Tennant in their three games. She was very impressed by their performances and the effort they put in and even though they lost close games to Hollingworth and Gee Cross they won one game with a fantastic performance that they should be all proud of.

Player of the match was RW for some great goals and showing excellent dribbling and defence.
