Tameside SG Lacrosse

We went to the Tameside School Games Lacrosse and finished runners up!

  

On Thursday 14th March we travelled with two teams of year 5’s to the Tameside Lacrosse tournament which took place inside at Great Academy Ashton after the bad weather and high winds forced us from the outdoor pitches.

This did not stop our enthuiasm though as our children were very excited to take part in Lacrosse.

Our B team were in a very tough group, playing a team of strong year 6’s at Millbrook and a well organised and talented St John Fisher Team. Despite some great defence and attacking play we lost our group games and ended up in third place, a good learning experience ahead of next year.

Our A team started off with a very close 2-1 loss against Gee Cross Holy Trinity but improved in each game from then on defeating St Christopher’s 3-1 with some amazing runs from Sam.We needed to defeat Airlies to make the semi’s but by this stage we had reached top form and won easily scoring 4 goals in the process.

The children were excited to reach the semi final, meaning we would have a chance of at least achieving a bronze medal.

It soon became obvious though that we would be going for better than that as we scored 3 goal to take control of the semi final against Millbrook, who could only reply with one late goal to make the match finish 3-1.

This meant we were in the final and got off to a dream start against local rivals Manchester Road when we went 1 up. However they were very good too and scored 2 quick goals to lead 2-1. We didn’t give up though and equalised to go 2-2 and then hit the post twice to just miss out on taking the lead. Unfortunately Manchester Road then scored just near the end to finish 3-2 winners meaning we ended up with the silver medal. 

However we were all pleased with the amazing achievment and in addition qualified to represent Tameside in the Greater Manchester School Games.
