Athletic Success at Stoke Mandeville Stadium

Mr Williams, 4 Jul 2019

Following on from the success of our own Sports Day, a small team of 15 children from Key Stage 2 were selected to represent the school at the Aylesbury Vale Athletics Competition at Stoke Mandeville Stadium.

Across the evening, students competed in a range of athletic events including: shot put, long jump, 600m and 800m races, 60-80m sprints and even a 4x100m relay race.

Our team did fantastically well, with each child earning a massive amount of points for our school. Billy and Amber (in Year 6) both won the shot put competition; Lauren and Olivia earned a well deserved 2nd and 3rd place in the girls 800m and 600m races; the Year 4 boys ran home to first place in the relay race; and Dhoeton and Tenzin both earned fantastic top 3 finishes in the long jump.

Thanks to all of their amazing efforts, Newton Longville walked home with a 3rd place overall in the school competition, bringing home another trophy for the school.

The children even got a chance to meet former Olympic 4x100m relay Champion Kris Akabusi

Everyone who ran, jumped and threw at the competition should feel immensely proud of themselves and all the hard work they put into their individual events. Well done!
