All the latest sporting news from Newton Longville April 2019

Waddesdon Cross Country

After months of training through wind, snow and sometimes even sun, we were able to enter an impressive team of 28 runners into the County-Cross-Country championships at Waddesdon Mannor. Running against 15 other schools from across the county. With well over 100 runners in each race, students from Newton Longville ran away with a bounty of awards and trophies: Hadley in Year 6, won a respectable 2nd place trophy in the boys 5/6 race; Lauren in Year 6, gained a well earned 9th place medal in the Girls 5/6 race; and Olivia in Year 4 achieved a fantastic 6th place medal in the Girls 3/4 race. However, it wasn’t just an individual competition as with all the points the runners earned, Newton Longville gained a well deserved 5th place overall in the school cup.

A massive well done to everyone on the team, you did the school proud.

Bicester Triathlon

Following weeks of cycling and running around the field during lunchtimes, to practising swimming and even more cycling after school, Billy, Lewis and Dhoeton in Year 6 and Tenzin in Year 4, all challenged themselves in entering and completing the Bicester Triathlon at the end of the term. On the very last day of March, the boys started their 8.30am race at Bicester swimming pool, swimming 200m, before cycling 4km and running a further 2km! A pretty tough task, especially for their first triathlon. Speeding around the course and with massive smiles at the finish line, they all did themselves and the school proud. Well done, boys!

Here’s what a few of the boys had to say:

We all really enjoyed it! We all had to get to Bicester very early, but it was definitely worth it. The different disciples were challenging but they were fun.

The whole experience was amazing and I would 100% do it again in the future. I loved all of it but my favourite part was the bit on the bike. I’d definitely do it again!

Key Stage 1 Dance County Finals

Following the success of the KS1 dance squad last term, the team earned a place at the County finals, where they were challenged with performing for a whole new set of judges, as well as competing against the best dance teams from across the county. With more rehearsal time with Mrs Ruff, the team did fantastically well, earning a well earned 3rd place trophy in the countywide competition. Well done Key Stage 1!

The school was even treated to an awesome performance by both the KS1 and KS2 dance teams at the Friends of the School Coffee Morning!

School Sports Club

Cross Country Club has finally reached the finish line following the success of the Waddesdon Cross Country and so will be closing until October next year. However, a new exciting athletic themed club will be starting in the summer term.

Hot Shots Basketball has also continued this past half term, with two teams from Newton Longville representing the school at a Hotshots basketball tournament in Northampton. The Hot Shots team even earned a second place prize at a Northampton based tournament. Hot Shots will be continuing after Easter.

Brazilian Soccer has also kicked into action, with Years 1-3 learning Latin American football skills on Friday

afternoons with the James, the Brazilian Soccer master! The club will be continuing after Easter.

The Big Pedal 2019

Finally, a massive thank you to all the students, parents and supporters who cycled and scooted to school during the Big Pedal. Thanks to your efforts, Newton Longville are currently ranked 19th for participation in the whole country!
