PSSP Inclusion Football

An inclusive Football event for students in mainstream and special schools.

Wednesday 15th November 2023 – a great turnout for our termly PSSP Secondary & Special Schools Football competition today. 6 teams came along to represent their schools: Cann Bridge, Coombe Dean, Devonport High School for Girls, Plympton Academy and Stoke Damerel. During these events, we play inclusive Football which is fundamentally about Teamwork, Respect and mainly having fun. We trialled a new format today to increase our inclusivity even more. Down either side of each pitch we created a channel which would mean that 1 player from each team could play the ball unopposed. This enabled us to create an environment where students could demonstrate their skills and press their teams’ advantage without a challenge from the opposition. This worked incredibly well and we saw some competitive games of Football. Throughout the morning we use a round-robin format so that each school gets to play everyone else. 5 points are awarded for a win/3 points for a draw and 1 point for a loss. Once all of the matches are complete, we tally the scores, announce the winners and present all players with their well-earned certificates. Congratulations to ‘Stoke Damerel B’ team who were the over winners today having finished on the same points as Plympton Academy but pipping them to the post with the number of goals scored. Well done to everyone who played today, you were fantastic and I really hope you would be keen to come back again next term. As always, I need to say a huge thank you to the incredible team of sports leaders from Stoke Damerel for refereeing and scoring all of our games. You really are a credit to Miss Crowe and your school – thank you for all your help to make these events so successful. Thank you as well to all of the teachers and staff who brought your teams along . Our next event is on Wednesday 17th January 2024 – make sure you get signed up.
