Spurcroft played their first cup match against local school rivals Whitelands Park -it was a close game with some great play from both teams. Spurcroft edged ahead at half time to lead 1-0 and then scored another 2 in the 2nd half winning the match 3-0. They progress through to the next round - well done.

Bill McIllvride Cup match

Super Win for Spurcroft Football team

Spurcroft had been drawn to play in the preliminary round of the Bill McIIvride Cup. We had a home fixture against Whitelands. During the first half we had most of the chances keeping possession of the ball and gaining control by putting pressure on Whitelands to force errors from them. We passed the ball well and had many opportunities and eventually Ethan found the goal from an error from the GK. Just before half time Whitelands hit the cross bar and then Maciej made an excellent save to keep us ahead. In the second half Spurcroft wanted more goals and again pushed forward with lots of attacking play. A scramble in the box led to our next goal with Danny finding the net to put us ahead 2-0. The team continued to work together with excellent defence from Jem, Jordan and George. Sophia and Bailey fought hard to gain possession and put in some crosses. Spurcroft sealed the match with a great last goal from Sophia taking an opportunity (spotting the GK off their line) from just inside the half way line to lift the ball up and over the GK to score. An encouraging start with superb team work from all players – looking forward to our next home match in the 1st round.

Congratulations to all the players: Maciej Wieczorek, Jordan Frost, Danny Richardon, Ethan Baker, Alfie Turley, George Studart, Bailey Billington, Sophia Billington, Jem Knoesen and Lola Stokesberry.
