The school team played in a round robin mixed netball tournament with local teams. A great day of netball for everyone and some super competitive netball throughout the day

Runner's Up for Bradfield Mixed Netball Team

RUNNERS-UP for Spurcroft at the Primary Schools Mixed Netball tournament

Spurcroft headed to Bradfield Sports College for a mixed netball tournament. For some of the children this would be their first opportuntity to represent the school playing netball. 6 teams were involved and so a round-robin tournament was played with everyone playing everyone and having the experience of playing lots of matches.

The teams at the tournament were: Bradfield, Pangbourne, Whitchurch, Emmer Green and Stockcross.

Throughout the tournament we improved on our game play with all the children working well as a team. We had an opportunity to move people around in different positions and to see how the team played. The competition was close with many teams having success.

We played Stockcross and as this was the first game for some players we took a while to settle and unfortunately couldn’t score any goals so lost 2-0.  After a team talk we then faced Bradfield and at half time the game play was close and the score was 1-1. In the 2nd half we played with much better awareness on court and we scored some great goals with excellent defence also winning 5-1. Our 3rd game we played Whitchurch which we continued to show super attacking and defending play winning 4-1.  Against Emmer Green we were a little disjointed and were drawing at half term 1-1. In the 2nd half we turned it around with superb shooting again and won 6-1. The final game we faced Pangbourne and this started as another close game – but we pulled through and won with a good score 7-4.

The results were announced at the end of the tournament and Spurcroft had finished in 2nd place being awarded silver medals.  A super tournament with excellent play throughout by all players. All the players received a medal and a certificate.

Mrs Thompson was extremely pleased with how well the children had played and how well they represented the school: Leilah Gaye, Bo Deas, Neeve Allen, Pearl Patel, Rosie Beaumont, Mia Bowley, Maisy Layland, Jordan Frost, Maciej Wieczorek and Patrick Drawl.
