WINNERS High 5 netball

WINNERS - High 5 netball festival

Spurcroft entered the High 5 netball tournament organised by Chris Risdale a PE teacher at Kennet with the local schools. High 5 netball involves all the players rotating their positions at each half time and so everyone plays each position, this shows how versatile each player needs to be – having a chance to shoot, defend and play centre. A fast and exciting game where each teams fortunes change over the game. The games were umpired by young sports leaders at Kennet School.

This year the tournament saw 4 teams participate: Each team played everyone in a round robin competition.

Each team played 3 games and then a finals game

The B team played the A team and fantastic play by both teams with great defending and interceptions – the A team won 5-1. Next opponents were Francis Baily blue and this was a close match with both teams having chances to score the final score was 3-1 to Francis Baily. Then the team faced Francis Baily green and the Spurcroft team worked well with better passing and movement to win the game 2-0.

The “A” team played Francis Baily green and struggled to keep possession due to excellent defending by Francis Baily players– within the final few minutes of the game Spurcroft had opportunities to score and we won 1-0. We then played Francis Baily blue and we played more flowing netball with strionger attacking play and we won 5-1.

The final games Spurcroft B faced Francis Baily green for 3rd/4th play-off and this was a close match with both teams working hard but neither team finding the goal so the final score was 0-0. The A team played Francis Baily blue and this was a tense game with Francis Baily going ahead 2-0 at half time – a focused Spurcroft team for the 2nd half saw great effort from everyone and William star shooting scored 3 goals to win the match 3-2.

For some children it was their first time playing in a match and they thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

The results were in and the “B” team had finished joint 3rd with the “A” team winning overall.

The children all received a certificate. Well done to all the players: –Jessica Argyle, Erin Jarvis, Eva Fielden, William Appleby, Evie Kernoghan, Olivia Titcombe, Lucy O’Sullivan, Evie Massey, Cora Francis, Ivan, Maisy Layland, Abi Millard, Neeve Allen, Bo Deas and Pearl Patel. Mrs Thompson was extremely proud of the teams.
