AUTUMN TERM 2, 2020 - Round up and Celebration

The End of an epic journey!

Moving on and hanging up my role as PE subject Leader at St Bega`s has been a rollercoaster of emotions recently and I just wanted to thank you all, Parents, Grandparents, Governors, Staff and most of all the Pupils who have helped to create some wonderful memories over the last 5 years! I am so lucky to have been supported and trusted to lead this area of the curriculum and I am proud to have shown the pupils the benefits of regular exercise during our PE. Having the opportunity to expose the pupils to competitive activity at Copeland school games events alongside creative and physical movement such as U dance has given ALL of our pupils the chance to shine to the fullest - In these events we have seen their strengths individually and when playing as part of a team. These experiences have also allowed them chances to face their fears and tackle difficult emotions which over time prepare them for transitioning into wider opportunities such as secondary school! I really am grateful for your support and attendance at our events such as sports days and active fundraisers!  There are so many highlights from over the years but here are my TOP 5!

  1.  Reaching the Copeland Hockey Finals 2019
  2.  St Bega`s WINNING the Tour of Britain cycling challenge 2018!
  3. Memory walk school Fundraiser (over £1000 for Dementia UK!)
  4. U dance 2018 and 2020
  5. The Big Pedal summer cycling event 2019!

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

Mr Lee  :)

Monday PE with Paul Hindmarch

Paul is our local school games organiser and due to COVID has been unable to work as normal running events and competitions across Cumbria. Lucky for us he has offered some support and coaching to St Bega`s and he has been a brilliant role model, professional instructor and friendly face for us during an unfamiliar and odd time.  Paul and I have co-delivered Hockey and Multisports through a wintery spell and its been an excellent half term of PE following on from Aut 1 alongside Chadd. Thank you to Paul for his friendship, energy and time! :)

Monday Hockey stars of the term - KS2

Hayden - for working hard and giving 100% grit and determination each week alongside his peers in every position and skill game!

Hannah H - for persevering and not giving up. For refining skills and being visibly more confident in her attacking as well as her defending!

HALF TERM STAR OF HOCKEY.... RUBY - from a defensive Fortress to an attacking menace Ruby has fabulous movement and pace on the pitch and a great vocal presence showing us clear attributes for play making and controlling the game! (A team captain in the making for sure!) Ruby might dream of TIK TOK fame but I see real potential here for a future sports captain who can lead teams from a variety of positions with her skill, clear vocals and awesome personality. Congrats Ruby!

Monday Multi Sports stars of the term - KS1 and EYFS

April - a consistent threat in our skills games and a determined winner when her mind is set to the task at hand. April has continued to refine her skills and become more noticeable as a leader by beginning to share tactics and ideas to allow her team to gain advantages.

Ali - Giving 100% focus and effort every week without loosing the fun factor in her engagement and play! You have really progressed and stepped up this half term and I am utterly blown away! WELL DONE!

HALF TERM STAR OF MULTISPORTS - William - We hope to see nuggets of leadership shine through in year 2 as our pupils prepare for a PE journey with more depth in KS2. William is a kind, caring and compassionate sports player on the pitch and will loose games and possession mid game to help a fellow pupil who has fallen over or been injured. William is always keen and willing to help me to set up for PE or pack away the bags and balls into the shed after the lesson. William is beginning to show us excellent leadership values that we long to see in all our pupils, a fabulous PE role model in KS1! WELL DONE!

Invasion Games PE KS2

I love teaching KS2 PE, each week you carefully nominate pupils as your stars of the week never being able to name one but multiple as you want everyone to be seen and recognised for their skills, efforts and talents. Each of you are incredible and I have been privileged to see and teach you across KS1 and KS2 all developing and working hard! Here is my choice for my star of half term from Invasion Games

HALF TERM STAR OF INVASION GAMES - Kimberley AKA "Kimbo" - you have become an excellent individual on any pitch. You are able to adapt to pretty much any game and situation with grace and compassion for others showing the qualities we expect from a captain or coach. You really have shone in the leadership aspect of this half terms PE supporting pupils and showing the power to listen to others and value their input while still being able to share your own ideas.  On the pitch Kimberley is a mix of Rambo and the power puff girls - aggressive, determined, unafraid and bold! #THISGIRLCAN  WELL DONE Kimbo!

Thursday Running Crew - Bare-Feeting!

Over these last two terms we identified our Top 4 Runners from the virtual cross country for some regular additional runs out - Rowan, Hayden, Hannah F and Mayson have headed out with myself for some epic runs into the Japanese gardens during our lunch break. When in the woods we  joined our resident barefoot fan Hannah for a bare foot bimble through the woods. We have had so many laughs and epic moments together - Mayson and his "ouch, oooo, ow" yelps through the woods to the clan being foot deep at times in mud! I am so thankful for your excitement and energy weekly to pop out and do this together! I absolutely feared joining you four on a barefoot run but as promised I eventually removed my shoes and joined my crazy quartet for a mile run barefoot! I didn't squeal once....Honest! I hope to continue this activity in my new setting mindful that my new location may bring more challenges than the rural piece of heaven we currently run in. Thank you four so much for so many awesome memories and moments! You four are all crazy amazing!

VIRTUAL CROSS COUNTRY OVERALL RESULTS!

So after 6 weeks over two half terms battling the worst weather and soggiest playing field I am stoked to be able to announce the results of our Intra School Overall cross country. This has been an event run county wide as part of Copeland school games as we cannot meet due to Covid restrictions currently. Congrats on our in-house winners!
