Year 5/6 Tag Rugby Competition (Boys)

Ethan and Issac (Y5 Sports Crew), 14 Oct 2019

On Friday 11th October, 9 boys from Year 5 and 6 travelled to the Sports Village to take part in a Tag Rugby Competition. During the first couple of matches the weather was rainy and windy, we got rather wet but it didn't stop us persevering and scoring tries!

In the morning we played in the second game of the competition and unfortunately lost that match. It was end to end scoring and because the other team (North Ormesby) had the first pass it meant that they won 6-5. Our next match against Marton Manor finished 4-3 although the last try was given when the player jumped to score and didn't get disallowed, despite that being one of the rules! Ike and Ethan then gave the boys a bit of a team talk and we changed the tactics to have five at the back and two up front, this resulted in us winning our next three matches. That took us up until lunchtime when we had to sit on the wet floor to eat our dinners!

In the afternoon, we were put into the second best division to play to win the plate. We played another five matches against different schools as well as St. Thomas More again. We won 3 and lost 2, Ethan scored a hat trick against Lingfield, Ike scored 2, Isaac W and Finley got 1. At the end, in the presentations it was very close and it came down to who conceded the most tries. With huge relief, after a really long day we found out that we actually came first overall. We all felt overwhelmed and happy, proud of ourselves knowing that we gave our best. The medals were shiny and gold, we had a team photograph wearing them and were excited to show all our classmates and families.

We are now looking forward to the next competition as well as beginning our first personal challenges at lunchtimes with KS1 and KS2 children. This week we have organised a Kick Up Challenge, how many can each person do in 30 seconds. For more on this, look out for our next blog!

St Gerard's RC Primary School

In 2018-19, all of the staff and pupils at St. Gerard's, including our fantastic Sports Crew, worked extremely hard to develop our PE and sport provision. We were beyond proud to have this recognised nationally by achieving the Gold School Games Mark for the second consecutive year! In 2019-20 we hope to achieve this accolade again by further strengthening our PE, School Sport and Physical Activity programme.
