Inspired by the Common Wealth Games.

Our Year 4 class have been taking inspiration from the events being held at the Common Wealth Games this year. Linking their topic sessions with the games thay have been discovering lots of new sports and activities.

Inspired by the Common Wealth Games.

Year 4 are taking their gymnastics to a whole new level this year - off the mats and outside.

Taking inspiration from the Common Wealth Games, this half term we have been working on Gymnastics and going a step further to intoduce Rhythmic Gymnastics.  The children have been researching the games during their topic sessions and designing and presenting projects on new sports and activities they have discovered. Due to indoor space being an occassional barrier at our school, we have looked outside of the box and off the floorand taken Rhythmic Gymnastics outside!

We have taken our sequences of traveling and balancing and are now looking at how we can use the same positions of tuck, straddle and pike at medium and higher levels or 'off the floor'. Working in pairs now to combine their sequences; how can they combine eachother's ideas and strengths? If that wasn't challenge enough we have introduced the use of a hoop. How can they incorporate this into their sequence, how can they make their sequence longer and continuously flow between balances and movement and how can it be as aesthetically pleasing as possible?

Year 4 certainly rose to the challenge with some fantastic creative moves, fabulous show of working together and some very impressive routines. They performed their routines and peer assessed eachother effectively; really listening to feedback and acting on eachothers comments positively. They planned their routines out using whiteboards and presented these back to the class, and thoroughly enjoyed these sessions. You can see by the smiles on their faces how much they have enjoyed and engaged in this topic.

The wonder of PE and school sport enabling us to inspire a love of sport and fitness for life!

 Well done Year 4!
