Annual Swimming gala hosted by Devonport Royal Swimming Association

Super Swimmers!

Our Wembury wonders never cease to amaze us with their talents, and last night 8 of our Year 6's did it again at the Devonport Royal Swimming Gala.

With 30 teams in each girls and boys category, there were 3 heats of 10 teams of 4 x 25m relays before the finals.

The girls were up first and finished 4th in their heat with a very impressive time of 1 minute 19.66seconds! Next it was the boys with an equally very impressive time of 1 minute 31.07 seconds which put them in 4th place in their heat too.

Then it was a nervous wait while the judges calculated the times of all the heats to find the top 10 teams in each category for the finals. During this time, we were treated to an amazing show of swimming by the young squads that train for clubs such as DRSA, Plymouth Leander and Dinnaton which included one of our pupils from last year and a number of children that our own Mrs Cater trains outside of school - fantastic to watch and very inspiring!

When the announcements were made of the finalisits we were a little bit excited to say the least hearing our Wembury girls had qualified for the finals while our boys missed out narrowly by 3 seconds - only about 2 strokes in swimming!

Another fantastic swim by our girls with a time of 1 minute 19.63 seconds this time brought them in 6th place. An amazing accomplishment when you consider the size of some of the schools we were competing against.

What a fantastic atmosphere and amazing event. Massive thank you to Devonport Royals Swimming Association for organising it and well done Wembury - we are so proud of you!
