A programme of free daily digital content to help keep young people active during the Coronavirus crisis has launched this week, including video coaching and resources from sport National Governing Bodies.
The 450 School Games Organisers within the School Games network have been redeployed to provide online activities and digital content to support every child to be active.
With funding from Sport England, the Youth Sport Trust has partnered with governing bodies of sport to release a set of activities and challenges designed to support the School Games network and families across the country.
They will be provided with a range of activity cards and will also be able to encourage young people to take part in video challenges through the School Games Active Championships, being run through the TopYa app.
Through the TopYa platform, young people will be tasked with sharing videos of their attempts at a series of physical challenges. These videos will be reviewed by a virtual coach, who will provide feedback. The first challenges include wastepaper basketball, speed bounce and one-handed dribbling.
Young people taking part will have the option to join in the School Games Active Championships TopYa leaderboard. The first challenges are now live on the platform with new ones to be uploaded every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
National Governing Bodies of sport are also contributing a daily supply activity cards, tailored to primary and secondary-aged pupils. Initial resources include ‘Sockia’ – an adapted boccia game with socks, a blindfold skittles challenge from British Blind Sport, and a dribbling challenge from England Hockey.
The resources are being made freely available to all from the School Games website and are intended to support the innovative work School Games Organisers have been undertaking in their local areas during school closures, helping local schools, families and young people.
Look out for daily challenges on the @yourschoolgames social media posts and we look forward to sharing more and more resources every day here at www.yourschoolgames.com.
