New Active Summer Challenge

Posted 20th July 2022

A new resource-driven campaign will take place over the summer to inspire young people to be active over the holidays, and we want you to get involved.

Summer is here, and what better way to step into the sunshine than celebrating the fantastic sports events happening in July and August? From UEFA’s Women’s EURO 2022 to the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, it promises to be a summer full of excitement!

This year has seen a welcome return to physical activity in schools, PE lessons, break time games, school sport, and after-school clubs. We want to build on that and encourage primary-aged children to step into their own Active Summer Challenge. The summer holiday presents the perfect opportunity for time together, enjoying the weather, and taking a rest from the usual routine.

The Active Summer Challenge will help children be active every day by setting their own pledge and taking part in the six weekly challenges. There are resources to help teachers launch this challenge in schools, fun activity cards for children, and links to lots of amazing content from sport organisations*.

Over the summer holidays, children can work through the activities whilst being inspired by the fantastic sporting events happening all over the globe. These include The Hundred, the Commonwealth Games, UEFA Women’s EURO 2022, and the US Open. When they have completed the challenges, there are digital certificates that can be awarded in September where schools can celebrate children’s achievements. We would greatly appreciate your help with sharing the Active Summer Challenge across your networks and encouraging your schools to share with their families/communities.
