Bowls

Bowls is an accessible sport for all, bringing together students from all walks of life. It can be played individually or as part of a team and is classified as a target sport. The main objective is to get your bowl as close to the jack to score points.

What is bowls?

As part of the School Games, a faster format of the sport called Bowls Bash has been introduced. It is a quick, high-scoring version featuring exciting power plays! All sessions will develop fundamental skills through a combination of activation and skill-based activities, before pupils take part in a game of Bowls Bash.

Primary formats

The Primary Skills Festival has been created to help pupils develop a range of skills and techniques that form the foundation needed to play Bowls Bash as a competitive finisher.

A series of activators and skill-based sessions supports fun and flexible delivery over a term or as part of a skills festival. You can mix and match all activators and sessions to suit your needs, and ending with a game of Bowls Bash is recommended.

Secondary formats

Through the Secondary School programme, a set of skill-based sessions are available to help pupils build the core techniques and fundamentals needed to play Bowls Bash.

Pupils can play as part of a team, developing communication and tactical awareness, or play individually to build self-resilience and confidence.

Secondary schools are encouraged to play as much Bowls Bash as possible. This is because it closely represents the version played in the club setting. You can create competition formats within your school or against other schools in your local area. Why not start an after-school club or connect with a local Bowls club in your community?
