Abbey Primary School achieve Gold!

Gold School Games Mark

School Games Mark Gold Award

We are delighted to announce that we, Abbey Primary School, have achieved the School Games Gold Mark Award for the 2022/23 academic year, a second consecutive year.

The School Games Mark is a government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.

Our sporting achievements this year include:

Attending over 60 competitions and festivals.

Running 17 sporting clubs.

Re-establishing the Year 5 School Games Crew.

Running 4 intra-house events (Cross-Country, Swimming Gala, Sportshall Athletics and Sports Day).

With over 150 young people competing in local inter-school competitions this year and every children having the chance to represent their house in intra-school competitions, we are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our competitions possible.

As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year.

A special thanks to: To all the staff members that have run clubs and supported children at events. To the parents that have supported with transport and cheered the children on at all events. To the children that have represented the school to the highest standards in all events. To the adults/ sports leaders that have run and facilitated the events.

We look forward to applying once again in 2024!
