Match report- Abbey Primary vs Forest Town

Mr Blackwell and Lucy Coalwood (Sports leader), 4 Dec 2017

Abbey Primary played their first league game of the year against local rivals Forest Town Primary. The two teams played out a dramatic draw with a last gasp goal from Joshua Dove cancelling out Forest Town’s early opener.

Abbey started slow conceding an early goal on the 5-minute mark. This however spurred Abbey on who created a string of chances, drawing out some fantastic saves by the Forest Town keeper with Charlie and Jenson hitting some ferocious shots. However, Forest Town’s defence stayed strong with some fantastic tackles to keep the score at 0-1 going into half time.

Going into the second half, Abbey started strong and attacked with intent and defended well. Forest Town were limited to a few chances and every touch they made they were under pressure. Again, Forest Town’s Goalkeeper was drawn into multiple saves from shots by Wentworth and Josh. Jenson then came close when he struck the outside of the post. Forest Town’s defence were put under serious pressure with a set of corners being conceded in a short period of time. At the 30-minute mark the final substitutions were made, and with fresh legs in the attack, Abbey were able to continue applying pressure on Forest Town. Some long shots by Nathan, Adam and Josh continued to put the Forest Town keeper under pressure. With 4 minutes left on the clock, Forest Town nearly put the game to bed with a shot skimming the top of the bar, although it was comfortably covered by Coby. Matthew and Bailey continued to stay strong and composed at the back and with seconds left on the clock played it out to Cody, who used his strength to drive forward and hold their players off. He then played the ball across to Josh who was driving forward. Staying calm and composed, Josh cut inside onto his left foot and around the keeper leaving him an easy tap in to take the score to 1-1. Seconds after the restart, the final whistle blew, and a tenacious and well balanced game had finished.

The team would like to thank everyone who came to watch and helped spur the team on. The game was played in the right spirit and all players enjoyed the game.
