The Best Sports Day Yet!

Avneet (Y5), 25 Jul 2019

A team of reporters covered the track and field events on Sports Day, collecting the thoughts of other children and witnessing some of the fantastic sporting moments that took place. Here, one of our Y5 children shares Sports Day from her viewpoint.

The Best Sports Day Yet!

Year 6 were first up competing in the 400m race; they competed in teams. Chanel, shortly followed by Olivia, were the first girls to run the 400m race. In the second race, in first place was Catrin, followed closely in by Asiah and squeezing into third place– Matilda. Competing in the third race and grabbing the top spot was Tia. Grace followed in second place and Charlotte in third. Next up, the boys… George, Jack, Charles, Adam, Jake and Michael all ready on the starting line waiting for the whistle. The boys set off at a steady pace, but just taking the top spot was Charles!

Year 4 were up next, participating in the standing long jump. Leighton, one of the best in the Brazil team, managed to jump 0.55m. However, it was nothing compared to Corey’s jump as he managed to get a massive 30cm further – jumping 0.85m! Those scores came from 4G, but with 4B still to complete their jumps in the pit, would they be better? I guess they were! George got an astonishing 1.30m, one of the first to beat Corey from 4G. Having two goes at a time, meant that they could complete their jumps faster and more efficiently too. However, the winner in the pit from Year 4, had to go to Ethan with an outstanding score of 1.85m in the pit – incredible!

After a quick break, we were back with Year 6 who were now throwing the vortex howlers. Me and my colleague Avril had a chat with Annabelle from year 6, Annabelle said "On my first go, I threw to the fourth cone. I'm hoping to throw further on my second go." Unfortunately, Annabelle’s second go didn’t quite make it to the fifth cone, but maybe she will improve next time. We then spoke to Jack who had an impressive score of 22m. We interviewed Evie Courtney from the Spanish team, in Year 6.  Her best score was 8m – ‘this event has been my favourite so far!’

After completing their throws, Year 6 went into the sand pit to complete their standard long jump. Charles jumped a phenomenal 1.7m. Well done to everyone who participated in this event. I interviewed Evie from Year 5 who said ‘the long jump has been my favourite event so far!’

Coming first in the 100m races were; Madison Mclean and Logan Clarke.

Well done to all our winners. Until next time!
