KS2 - PE WEEK 1

Mr Lee, 10 Jan 2021

This week we will look at the first part of our spring term PE - Dance and Gymnastics! Over the next few weeks we will be working together online and I cannot wait to see your progress at the end of the term!

KS2 - PE WEEK 1

WEEK 1 - Finding the Pulse

Today we will be working on some different fundamental areas of dance starting off with finding  the pulse and moving around the room -" known as travelling". I have found a few examples of some dance which really uses these ideas well and hopefully help get you inspired for todays lesson! Check out the 2 videos below before starting the lesson.

Lets get an idea of how this looks...

Around the world - If you watch just one of my videos... Then this is perfect to watch! Can you find the beat when you listen to the song by nodding, clapping or tapping your foot? Watch the robots carefully!

The Jabbawockeez - Amaizng world champion dance crew who rely on moving to the pulse or other sounds in the song in Robotic ways - This is only a short sample of theier ability! Well worth giving them a youtube search though!!!

5 minute Warm up Video

Its super important to warm up before we get a bit more jiggy with it. Our muscles need a chance to get ready and our heart and lungs always appreciate the chance to get prepared. We are going to start with a very short warm up to help us feel and find the beat followed by some balance challenges. If your teachers are in the class with you make sure they join in and if you`re not alone at home then encourage those around you to join in (if they can!)

CLEAR A SPACE AROUND AND MAKE SURE ITS SAFE TO MOVE BEFORE STARTING THE NEXT VIDEO

Part 1 - Copy and create

Today we are going to use the theme of  ROBOTS for creating our own mini dance today! Click on the video below. Top tip - In Dance we use the word - Travel - to describe moving around.

Part 2 - You do!

Now you have finished watching the video I would like you to use A NEW SONG  to create your very own space inspired movements around your room or class! If you are at school maybe you could take turns to copy your classmates ideas, then swap over and let them copy you.

Reflection

How did you feel about todays lesson?

Feel free to share any thoughts, pictures or videos of your PE lesson on Class Dojo or Showbie!

See you next week
