Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of everyone involved the Cricket Skills Festival was prevented from finishing due to persistent heavy rainfall and a nearby road traffic accident.
Arriving at the ground, the children were excited to see an array of different activities set out designed to develop and improve their cricketing skills; with Sports leaders from Church Langley supporting the teams, the morning started with pupils throwing, running, catching and batting their way through one of the 8 planned events. After two events, the children ran around the outfield to take part in a cricket-themed quiz; this additional activity was part of a coordinated effort to run a daily mile festival.
Sadly, the rainfall didnโt ease and as pupils became cold and wet, the enthusiasm dwindled slightly. A nearby flurry of emergency vehicles attending an RTA hastened the exit of schools concerned by the traffic forming outside the exit.
Our thanks were given to Gill Pardoe and David Stacey, who organised the event in conjunction with Harlow Town CC and Essex CC. Where possible, they will try to run the event again before the end of the academic year.
