Tag Rugby Qualifiers on the 19th January 2024

Mr Defoe, 25 Jan 2024

On Friday 19th January two year 6 teams of 9 children were asked to represent Cooks Spinney in the Tag Rugby qualifiers. The Children were all very excited to compete for the school and show all of the other schools what we were made of. This event was supposed to be held at the Harlow rugby club, however due to the cold weather and frozen pitch, the event was hosted by Church Langley primary school. The children could not wait to play which was evident from the bus journey and their (very loud) singing! As soon as we arrived at the school, we immediately began warming up and going over tactics for the upcoming matches. Once all of the other schools had arrived we all sat down and were made aware of the rules, expectations and schedule for the afternoon. Following this came our first match. Cooks Spinney team 1 began the match by scoring a try within the first opening seconds of the game, and continued to score try after try until the match was over and secured our first victory. The second game against Kingsmoor was very competitive, with both sides making amazing tackles (tags) and scoring even better tries. The end result of this game was a draw. The next two games both resulted in dominant victories from Cooks Spinney, with the final game being the closest. One of our players made an absolutely spectacular tackle which allowed us to come out on top and secure a spot in the final! This was such an amazing feeling for the children and a great sense of achievement. The finals will be held at the Harlow Rugby club on the 26th. Both myself & Miss Jordan could not be anymore proud of the Children who participated, WELL DONE!!! Good Luck in the finals Cooks Spinney!! Here are the results from the afternoon: Group 1. Fawbert and Barnard – 12 points - qualified for finals. Roydon – 9 points - qualified for finals. Henry Moore 1 – 8 points. Tanys Dell 2 – 7 points. Cooks Spinney 2 – 4 points. Group 2.
