Today, Edge Hill participated in the Derby County Ladies FC Girls’ Y3/4 Football Festival held at The Soccer Dome in Derby. One team of 7 played in a group against 5 other schools from Derbyshire. The competition consisted of four groups of 6 with the winners and runners- up of each group receiving a trophy (1st place) and a certificate (2nd place).

Runners –up! Derby County Ladies FC Girls’ Y3/4 Football Festival

In their first match together as a team, the girls played against Ashgate and strolled to a 4-0 win with some brilliant attacking football. The opening goal from Millie was an outstanding run down the line from defence finished off with a cool strike. The next three goals followed quickly with some very good finishes from Maisie, Holly and Millie for her second.

The second game was against Hartshorne a much tougher opponent who defended very well. Our girls found themselves 1-0 up after a super solo run by Hollie was slotted home. Shortly after, Hartshorne equalised against the run of play. This was followed with Edge Hill attacking for the rest of the game. Unfortunately for them, they could not find the net and the game ended 1-1.

In their 3rd game, the girls faced the group’s eventual winners Silverhill who were a very good side. We battled throughout the game with some brilliant defending from Jada, Katie and Sophie. The game ended 4-1 to Silverhill with Hollie again finding the next.

The girls’ penultimate game was against Springfield in an all-South Derbyshire battle. Edge Hill were fantastic and hit their opponents with attacking play from the off. Millie dribbled past the whole of the opposing team to score her two goals. This was matched by Hollie who worked tirelessly throughput and was rewarded with 2 goals. Our last goal came from the defensive rock Katie who enjoyed a run further forward to slot home her first competitive goal.

The last game followed suit as the girls ran away 4-0 winners. Skye made some great saves early on before some hard work from Maisie led to the first of 3 goals scored by Millie. Being 3-0 up gave the girls massive amounts of confidence which was evident in their performance as Hollie added the final goal to finish the game 4-0.

Massive congratulations to the girls who finished runners-up in their group in only their first football competition together!
