Staffs Schools FA U11 Cup 3rd Round: Edge Hill v St Modwen's @ Edge Hill - 23rd January 2019

Mr Carvell, 24 Jan 2019

On a cold but sunny afternoon, the school's Y5/6 9-aside football team met St Modwen's in the 3rd round of the Staffs U11 Cup today. Edge Hill (Harrison x3, Cole x3, Charlie P) 7-0 St Modwen's

Early in the match, Edge Hill created chances down both wings with Max T, Jack and Harrison repeatedly getting to the byline to put crosses into the box, and this paid off when Harrison put the team in front with a fine shot from the left. About 5 minutes later, Cole made the score 2-0 after holding off the challenges of two defenders just outside of the area.

In the second half, Cole got his second goal following a fine sequence of passes between Charlie F, Sonny and Zack which Cole finished off with a side foot from in front of goal. As the scoreline increased, more players pressed forward to get on the end of crosses, resulting in two goals being bundled into the net by Harrison and Charlie P. By the time the final whistle blew, Harrison and Cole both netted again to make the score 7-0 to Edge Hill, capping off a fine attacking and defending performance by the whole team!

Edge Hill is now the last remaining East Staffs school in the competition and in the next round will face a trip to Cannock, Stoke or to a school in South Staffs. This will be a semi-final.

A huge Well Done to the team for today's excellent performance!

Charlie F, Omarion, Jack, Harrison, McKenzie, Zack, Sonny, Charlie P, Cole and Max T!
