Year 5 tackle competition at Roots Hall

Y 5 Boys Football

On Friday 10th May, a team of Year 5 boys visited Roots Hall to play in Southend United’s community cup. We were placed in group C against Prince Avenue, Great Wakering and Greenways. As we were in a group of four teams, we had to play each team twice. We started on defensively solid and having great spells in the game but couldn’t find the cutting edge to secure the win with the opening match finishing 0-0. This was to be a recurring theme in our games. Throughout the morning we lost 1-0 to both Great Wakering and Greenways. Both goals were unfortunate events. In the second match against each team, we drew 0-0 again to Prince Avenue. In our fifth match we opened the scoring before being pegged back and with the last kick of the game conceding again to lose 2-1. Our final match against Greenways saw us score early on and defend resolutely. Unfortunately, another last minute goal meant that we had drawn again. The boys played fantastically well together and grew as a team throughout the competition. We forced some stunning saves from opposition keepers whilst making some great saves of our own. The boys should feel extremely proud and I look forward to seeing the team grow in the future.
