The Launch of Honeywell’s Sports Leaders Programme

Chris Graham, 28 Feb 2020

16 Year 6 pupils were inducted as Sports Leaders yesterday, attending a short workshop led by Nick Miller (Wandsworth's School Games Organiser). They worked collaboratively to determine the characteristics of a strong Sports Leader, participated in activities designed to be easy to explain, and with opportunities to incorporate additional skills or reduce complexity so that they are inclusive for all.

The Launch of Honeywell’s Sports Leaders Programme

The children were exceptional - moments of real pride for me as their Coach, as they explained what was important when teaching others, showing how they could adapt games and giving intelligent answers when posed with dilemmas.  They showed their competitive sides when they were asked to participate (and I would expect nothing less) but they also worked together to ensure that everyone was involved - excellent work!

Everyone was presented with a smart Sports Leaders Badge, which they should wear with pride, and we will ensure that they are involved with organising Sports Day (both for Infants and Juniors) and I have taken this opportunity to give them their first tasks:

- to compile a list of children in each class (Yr4-6) who have yet to represent Honeywell at a sporting fixture.

- when they have that list, their second task is to organise an opportunity for these children to play.

Please do encourage them to work together to organise the list of children and then (depending on numbers) I will work with the Sports Leaders to determine what that opportunity will be !

Photos showing their output and interaction and an enormous thank you to Nick for spending 2 hours inducting Wandsworth's newest Sports Leaders.
