Yr 5 A Tournament at JAPS

Chris Graham, 6 Mar 2020

Your girls all worked really hard today, this was an A team tournament, and previously at Yr 5 we have only entered B/C tournaments, with an introduction to all girls A fixtures in Yr 6, however whilst our opponents have all played netball at IAPS and similar comps this month, Honeywell's Netballers certainly gave their opponents a run for their money today!

Yr 5 A Tournament at JAPS

Your girls all worked really hard today, this was an A team tournament, and previously at Yr 5 we have only entered B/C tournaments, with an introduction to all girls A fixtures in Yr 6, however whilst our opponents have all played netball at IAPS and similar comps this month, Honeywell's Netballers certainly gave their opponents a run for their money today!

The draw was tough, Royal Russell were our first match, fresh off winning the IAPS yesterday, their confidence was high and it took Honeywell a little by surprise.  Our defence was good however, with a 0-1 scoreline after the first half of 7 minutes ended.  Royal Russell found their fire in the second half, and turned to deliver 2 more goals, whilst Honeywell couldn't quite pass the ball all the way down to our attacking circle. L 1-3 (although a decent scoreline versus the overall tournament winners).

The next game was a bye, so an opportunity to encourage our girls to improve their possession in 14 short minutes they had improved, and it showed when they took to the court against Alleyns, and they worked hard sending the ball to our shooters, and the score ending in a 2-2 draw.

Third match vs St Christopher's an unknown school, but clearly netballers, as they took us to a loss of 5-4, although you can see that this combination worked well, and our netballers delivered strong possession into the goal circle, and delivered the shots!  Again, a solid performance against the overall silver medallists.

Fourth and final game against JAGS (who traditionally are strong) however the tiredness was starting to show across both sets of girls, with dropped balls, a little more footwork (more on JAGS part than Honeywell's) as Honeywell's win with a 2-0 reflecting the hard work our team put in.  JAGS took bronze overall.

Overall therefore, Honeywell ended 4th of 5, but whilst we usually return with metal round our necks, they should be very proud of the fact that they were able to compete strongly in a Yr 5 A team comp, and the future looks bright for these girls under the watchful eye of Sarah & Susie!

As always an enormous thank you to Minsi for transporting half of the team, and keeping them hydrated on the sideline, as well as teaching them how to score as they were rotated off.
