Cross Country Running Club

After a brief chat at Bolehills cross country in September, Yara (Szwejkowska) offered to help with running some training after-school for her daughter and a few pupils. Since October the group have been doing some fun training drills on Tuesdays or Wednesdays at Endcliffe and Chelsea parks.

In cross country club we do a lot of exercises (e.g. Froggy jumps, burpees, karaokes, penguin runs and kangaroo hops) and running drills but we also sometimes do 2k runs. Yara makes it fun by shouting out things to which we reply e.g. she shouts “cross” and we shout out “country” or she shouts out “running” and we shout out “club”. We often do hill sprints around school running from Sharrowvale road up to the entrance of Kirkstall road and walk back down or kangaroo hop.

We really enjoy running club and it’s something that we want to keep doing. It was also great having a Christmas party in Porter Pizza after our last session before Christmas. –M.E. & M.G. –Year 4

“Cross Country club is one of the most rewarding moments of my week. We train as a team but also focus on individual marginal gains. It is great to see the children bond and form friendships across year groups and different classes within their year; all whilst doing sport.” - Yara

A huge thank you to Yara from Mr. Adebola & all of the running club participants and parents!
