New Age Kurling - Westgate Centre (11/10/23)

Mr Neaves, 14 Oct 2023

Four of our Year 6 pupils were invited to take part in a New Age Kurling competition at the Westgate Leisure Centre. We chose to be part of this event as it provided inclusive opportunities and to create positive experiences for the pupils participating.

New Age Kurling - Westgate Centre (11/10/23)

After an introduction, our team had a chance to warm up and get their eye in before their first game. It is a good job they had a practice, as the distance to push it was further than when they had tried at school!

There were 16 teams, and we were split into two pools. Within our pool, we played each of the teams. Our first game was against St Anthony’s 2 team. Our first stone went too far. Stone two wasn’t far enough. And we failed to score at all in the first end. We then drew the second end, 0-0. We then won the last end, 1-0.

Our second game was against Downview. By this point, we were only doing 2 ends to try and claw some time back.

The first end ended 0-0 after a stone from the opposition was removed due to a rule infringement.

The second end was 0-0 too.

We had a rest session, and then played Kingsham’s 5th team. We drew the first end, 0-0. The final end finished 0-0. The next game was against Kingsham 4. We drew the first end 1-1. We drew the second 0-0, missing the target by less than an inch.

The 5th game was against St Richard’s. We won the first end 2-0! The second was 0-0.

The 6th was meant to be against Parklands 2nd team, but they withdrew and so we were awarded a 0-0 draw.

In the heats, our final game was against Chidham Primary. The first end was 0-0 and the second end was also 0-0.

We came 2nd in our pool.

Our semi-final was against Kingsham 1, and we won the first end 2:1. The second end was 0-0.

Our last game - the final - was against Kingsham 4. We drew 0-0 and then lost 0-1, coming second overall.
