Unique Summer 2 National Curriculum + Programme

Mr Gayles, 24 Jun 2022

In Summer 2, the PE Team have thought outside the box about what we are going to offer for our afterschool clubs as part of the schools National Curriculum + Programme.

Unique Summer 2 National Curriculum + Programme

At Linthorpe, we offer a National Curriculum + Programme like no other. Every night we have at least one, sometimes two or three sports clubs. All year, we have had fantastic participation levels as we have aimed to give our children lots of amazing opportunities outside of our normal School Curriculum. The PE Team has worked very closely with Ms Whittaker, one of our AHT's who is responsible for our School Curriculum and the National Curriculum + Programme. We have wanted to ensure that sport is accessible to everyone and that every child has the opportunity to come to and enjoy a sports club at some point in the school year.

Many of these clubs have ended with a competition for the children in the final week, which they have loved. This year, we have ran many clubs. These include Funky Feet for our Reception children, Climb High for Y1 (using our climbing frame in the school hall), Football, Tennis, Cricket, Athletics, Fantastic Fitness and many more.

This half term we have really thought outside the box in terms of out offer. Reception have been offered a Funky Feet club, which is key to helping improve their FUNdamentals for moving into KS1 (notice FUN in capital letters, as that is the more important aspect of the club). Y1 and Y2 have both been offered their own Dodgeball clubs. Having conferenced the children and given them a "Children's Choice" club, Dodgeball is what the selected.

Moving up to KS2, Mr Gayles has been given some Pokemon Futsal equipment by the FA. Knowing how much our children love Pokemon and wanting to offer something new, we decided to offer a Pokemon themed Futsal club for our Y3/4 children, where they learn to "Master the Ball". The equipment is fantastic, the Futsal balls are Pokeball design, with us also having yellow Pikachu flat markers and two sets of Pikachu bibs. The children were all given progress cards, which once they master certain skills, they receive a Pokemon sticker to put into their books. We ordered more Futsal balls, as the club was so popular we did not have enough!

Y5/6 have been offered a Golf club this half term. In Summer 1, Y5 did Golf for the first time as part of our PE Curriculum and really enjoyed it. Golf is a sport you do not see much in primary schools, so we decided to offer it as something new for our UKS2 club. The club filled up immediately and the children have really taken to Golf.  This club will end with a competition, which we will use the school field as a Golf course, with the winner being the children who completes the course in the least number of shots.

All of our Sports Leader Crew are supporting with the running of these clubs. It is each leaders second club that they are involved in now, so their confidence is improving week by week. Above, are some photographs of our Futsal and Golf clubs.
