Sports and Exercise Activity Ideas- January 2021

Over the past few weeks, several fitness and exercise-based links have been shared with you and your children, via both Google Classroom and Parentmail. It has been great to see the children’s enthusiasm in taking part in such initiatives, as it really is important that they continue to participate in regular daily exercise.

I have included some of these initiatives to further highlight and endorse (full details can be found on parentmail announcements and on your child’s Google Classroom notices).

· Richard Challoner School have kindly shared seven weeks of physical weekly challenges. The first week was based on a rugby challenge. The emphasis of this is to have fun with exercise and to work on bettering personal best performances.

· Kingston Family Exercise Challenge: the Kingston School Games Organiser has created an initiative for all schools in the Borough. The aim is to further embrace the importance of daily exercise, with those participating to record the miles that they exercise as a family (walking, cycling, scooting and more). The target for each school is to combine for the total of 4,672 miles- the distance to Kingston, Jamaica!

· London Youth Games have created virtual weekly challenges. Last week’s challenge was to complete as many speed bounces as possible in 30 seconds. I am pleased to say that lots of children at O.L.I. took part in this challenge, contributing to an excellent Borough performance with Kingston 2nd place in the overall leaderboard out of the 32 Boroughs.  Use this link to access the challenges: https://www.londonyouthgames.org/virtual-games/lyg-school-games-fitness-challenges/

The Youth Sports Trust is holding free virtual after-school sports club sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5.00pm. This can be accessed using the following link: https://www.youtube.com/user/YouthSportTrust
