Year 3/4 Borough Sportshall Athletics

On Tuesday 28th March 2023, 25 children (see the photo) across Year 3 and Year 4 represented the school in a seven-team sportshall athletics competition.

The event, which was held at The Kingston Academy, is the first time that children in year groups below Year 5 have been able to compete at this event in the Borough of Kingston so it was a great opportunity. The competition consists of a range of relay running races and field events, which include standing long jumps and speed bounce.

For the running relays, O.L.I were up against Lime Tree and St Joseph’s. The children did really well in their teams, showing a combination of speed and teamwork with their relay exchanges, winning many of the races. The children also showed great commitment in their field events, recalling many of the tips to improve their performances.

After taking in all of the results and timings from all seven schools across the morning’s events, it was announced O.L.I. achieved a well-deserved and very respectable 4thplace, narrowly missing a bronze medal. The children showed great energy and passion throughout the morning, and they should be very proud of their efforts. I was impressed with their behaviour, especially with how they travelled back to school in wet conditions.

Please see the school website for a wider range of photos from the event. I would like to thank the parents and carers who dropped their children off to the venue. Also, many thanks to Mrs Pirabakaran and Mrs Jeyathurai, who kindly supported the team at the venue and on the walk and bus back to school; this was very much appreciated.
