Year 4 Girls' Football Success

On Tuesday 15th January 2019, eight girls from Year 4 took part in O.L.I’s first inter-school event of the spring term by participating in a football festival at Chessington School. O.L.I came up against six primary schools which included: St Matthew’s, Grand Avenue, Malden Parochial, Tolworth, Lovelace and Malden Manor.

Throughout the festival the girls played with great passion, skill and enthusiasm. This resulted in the team scoring several fantastic goals during the course of the afternoon. By the end of the festival, the girls won four of the six matches that they played. They should be very proud of their efforts and I would like to congratulate them on the wonderful team spirit that they displayed.

As you can see from the team photograph, the girls really enjoyed the occasion. See below what they had to say about the festival:

· Lyla: ‘I felt like we worked as team and enjoyed people cheering for us.’

· Isabelle: ‘We all thrived together as a team and helped each other.’

· Bella: ‘We all had good positions and we worked well as a team.’

· Ella: ‘I think we did well, as we worked as team and cheered each other on.’

· Darcey: ‘I really enjoyed it and we all listened to each other well.’

· Elizabeth: ‘I thought it was a great opportunity for girls to get into football.’

· Naomi: ‘I really enjoyed it. When we lost or drew we embraced our mistakes.’

· Anastasia: ‘I think we all worked as a team very well and built on our skills.’

I would like to extend my thanks to Miss Simmonds who brilliantly performed Team Manager duties at the festival; this was greatly appreciated. Also, many thanks to the parents and carers who transported children to the venue.
