Move over boys- it's the girls turn. Read this for a report detailing how the event went for O.L.I's competitors.

Year 5/6 Girls' Cricket Competition

Following the cricketing exploits from Year 6 Boys (see June newsletter) before half-term, it was the turn of the girls on Tuesday 5th June 2018. Showing enthusiasm and endeavour in after-school training sessions, one Year 5 pupil and seven Year 6 pupils (see photograph) were ready to take on fellow competitors from a range of local primary schools.

O.L.I came up against strong opponents in the form of King Athelstan and Lovelace for their first two matches. The girls did well in the field and bowled accurately to limit their opponents to positive score totals just below 50 runs. Unfortunately, O.L.I just missed out on victories in these closely-fought matches; however, this was soon about to change. O.L.I next played Surbiton Prep. In this encounter, I was particularly impressed with the way in which the batting pairs were able to rotate strike and keep the score board ticking over. O.L.I managed to win this match by an impressive 20 runs. In the final match the girls came up against St Andrews and St Marks. Again, batting impressively, this final match displayed how the girls’ overarm bowling technique vastly improved during the competition. Deservingly, O.L.I were again victorious and won this close match by a mere 8 runs.

As the team photo demonstrates, all of the girls enjoyed participated and continued to play with a smile on their face. With two wins from four matches, and most important having a fun-filled afternoon, the girls should be very proud of their performances. Congratulations to: Alice, Caitlin, Amandia, Liliana, Yunwoo, Rebecca, Ayona and Shalini, for presenting our school in a fantastic manner. I would like to thank all the parents and carers who kindly provided transport going to the venue
