Year 6 Indoor Cricket Finals

Following winning the Borough Championships in December, eight Year 6 pupils travelled to Surrey's KIA Oval to take part in the Regional Finals. Read this blog to find how well they did.

Year 6 Indoor Cricket Finals

On Friday 15th February 2019, following the team’s recent victory in the Borough competition back in December, eight-Year 6 pupils took part in the prestigious William Greaves Trophy. Representing Kingston, O.L.I. competed against fellow winners from Southwark, Greenwich, Dulwich and Wandsworth. The children were quite rightly looking forward to this unique sporting experience, which was in part due to the venue… Surrey’s Kia Oval Indoor Centre of Excellence in Vauxhall, London.

While the standard of cricket promised to be high from their opponents, O.L.I. were ready for the challenge and they certainly didn’t disappoint. Across the four rounds of matches O.L.I managed two emphatic victories and two close defeats. By the narrowest of margins (on runs scored), O.L.I just missed out on a top two position and finished a very creditable third place. The children should be very proud of this achievement. Every team member made a telling contribution across all matches in what was a real team performance. I was particularly impressed with the accuracy of our bowling attack and the quality of fielding.

The pupils involved had a great day (see team photo); this can be shown by what they reported from the day:

Devin: ‘I would like to say well done to everybody.’

Aidan: ‘I enjoyed the experience.’

Ollie: ‘We all did very well.’

Rebecca: ‘We did really well and tried really hard. It was great fun.’

Shireen: ‘We did well, especially with our fielding.’

Enrique: ‘We worked together as a team.’

Perujan: ‘We all did well and worked hard.’

Marissa: ‘I’m so happy with our performance. We will never forget it.’

In addition to showcasing their cricketing skill, the children displayed excellent teamwork, enthusiasm and fair play. It was a pleasure to witness such qualities during the course of the day. All pupils were fantastic ambassadors for our school.

While this is the end of indoor cricket for this academic year, during the summer term there will be an after-school cricket club for children in Year 5 and 6 with a number of inter-school Kwik-Cricket competition opportunities for those involved. Finally, I would like to express my thanks to Mrs Fox and Mr Owen who generously gave their time in supporting the team during the course of the day.
