Year 6 Table Tennis Championships

On Monday 1st July 2019, four children from Year 6 took part in the Table Tennis Borough Finals. Following successfully qualifying for this prestigious event back in May, Rhiannon, Shireen, Keir and Lucas were excited to take part against the very best players from the Borough of Kingston. The Finals took place at Coombe Boys’ High School inside the sports centre using their very impressive indoor table tennis tables.

While each team member played individually against their opponents, they collected points which went towards a girls’ collective score and a boys’ collective score. Each team member played an incredible 15 matches during the course of the competition. It was fantastic to see the enjoyment that the children displayed both in training ahead of the event and in the competitive matches. All the team certainly improved their skill level going from match to match, with the standard of play amazingly high. Both the boys and girls finished in 7th place in their respective team competitions; they should be very proud of their table tennis performance during the summer term.

The O.L.I. squad displayed a combination of skill, teamwork and fair play- they were a pleasure to watch and lead in this event. I hope that the team continue to enjoy this sport in the future. Finally, I would like to thank Mrs Haylett for kindly taking the team to the venue.
