Wheelchair Basketball

Today, I will tell you how I felt about wheelchair basketball. Let me just get something straight, I loved it!

Wheelchair Basketball

I felt invincible. To start with I felt a little scared and really nervous because I thought it would be really hard to push. I got in the wheelchair and it felt super comfortable so I started twisting and turning the wheels. It was really smooth and it was cool to do a little 360 degree turn!

We did some of these activities to start with. We started to just drive around and get used the wheelchair. I felt I was quite good. Then we did the traffic light, it was really fun and the instructor did instructions like stop, slow down and do turns.

After that we did a fun activity where one wheelchair went in the front and the other and one went to the back. Then the front one drove and the second one hung on. After that we switched places. I found it really hard to push with somebody hanging on to you due to the amount of weight. I would like to say a big thank you to the steeler wheelers association for organising this  and especially Eli, if you see him in school and you did wheelchair basketball just say “thankyou”.

Next, we did some races, we won most of them but well done to all the participants that took part. The first race we did we went around the cone and came back. We won that. With the second one we went to the cone and did a 720 degree turn (we went round in a circle twice), that was difficult. Then it was the game. It was very difficult because you couldn't just dribble, you had to have at least 5 passes. The way you could dribble was you put the ball on your knee and you drove like that. The match ended and it finished 1-1.

Please can I just say a special thank you to Eli and of course, the one and only STEELERS WHEELERS
