Our first Merseyside School Games

Mr Bayliff, 15 Mar 2023

What a fantastic experience for our Y3/4 gymnasts who performed really well and witnessed some excellent performances from other schools and clubs.

Our first Merseyside School Games

Our Y3 and Y4 gymnasts, who successfully qualified for our first regional (level 3) competition (ever), had a wonderful experience at the Drill Gymnastics  Centre in Birkenhead yesterday. They pitted their poise and control against other schools from Sefton, Liverpool, Wirral, Knowsley, St. Helens and Halton.

The first challenge was to complete the individual sequence and the team performed to their maximum (helped by the sprung floor!) Next was the vault and again the team showed their best over the box (with a couple of gymnasts showing a creative walk once they had completed the dismount). After a short break the leaders from Wirral Gymnsatics Club supervised a gymnastic circuit which was brilliant (mainly due to tiring the team out for the journey home!)

To finish we all watched in awe the performances from the Wirral gymnasts and the other schools who performed a group floor routine. Well done to Devonshire Park who were crowned the overall champions but I am so proud of our team who have improved so much and I hope they can continue at one of the local clubs in the area (Dan Purvis or Everton Park). If they are too far then maybe trampolining  with the Springers Club on Mariners Road??
